The American Heart Association has announced its national officers for the 2014-15 fiscal year, which begins July 1.
Bernie Dennis, owner of Dennis Associates, LLC, in Sudbury, USA, is chairman. Elliott Antman, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a senior physician in the Cardiovascular Division of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA, is president.
Dennis, who enters the second of a two-year term as chairman, is responsible for the association’s business affairs, public relations and fundraising, and will preside over all board of directors and administrative cabinet meetings. An association volunteer for more than 15 years, Dennis was the association’s treasurer in 2011-12 and chairman of its Founders Affiliate from 2008 to 2010. He is also a past chairman of the organisation’s Rochester, New York, USA Division.
As president, Antman will serve as chief volunteer scientific and medical officer, responsible for medical, scientific and public health matters. A volunteer since 1977, Antman was chairperson of the association’s Committee on Scientific Sessions Program in 2011 and 2012. He has authored or co-authored more than 700 scientific articles and has led numerous multicentre trials, including senior investigator of the TIMI Study Group.
The association has also announced its 2014-15 treasurer, chairman-elect and president-elect.
David Bush, executive vice president of The First, A National Banking Association, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA, begins his second year as treasurer. In this role, Bush is responsible for the association’s funds and securities. He was the 2010-12 chairman of the association’s Greater Southeast Affiliate and has been a member of the national board of directors since 2011.
Alvin Royse, who retired as a senior partner with Deloitte & Touche in San Francisco, USA in 2010, is chairman-elect. Royse was the association’s treasurer in 2012-13 and is a past chairman of the organisation’s Western States Affiliate and San Francisco Division.
Mark Creager, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and director of the Vascular Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, is president-elect. Creager was chairperson of the association’s National Research Peer Review Committee from 2011 to 2013, and in 2010 he received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the organisation’s Council on Peripheral Vascular Disease.
