Topera Medical, developer of the RhythmView 3D electrophysiologic mapping system, announced on 5 June that Karl-Heinz Kuck has been appointed chair of the company’s International Scientific Advisory Board.

Kuck is currently director of Cardiology at the Asklepios Klinik St Georg in Hamburg, Germany, the largest private hospital operator in Europe. He has authored more than 450 scientific papers, has served as a board member of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) for the past four years and is the current EHRA president-elect.

“Professor Kuck is a world-renowned scientist, cardiologist and an invaluable addition to our team,” said Edward Kerslake, CEO, Topera Medical. “He brings to Topera an impressive scientific pedigree. Further, with his experience leading cardiology at one of the largest and most efficient hospital groups in Europe, we believe that he can guide our continued efforts to improve patient outcomes, optimise clinical workflows and increase electrophysiology lab throughput.”

“At the Asklepios hospitals, we continuously improve the quality of our medical care by actively pursuing research and development, optimising process flows and by implementing the latest technologies and innovative techniques,” said Kuck. “I have observed the RhythmView system in clinical use to reveal multiple simultaneous rotor sources driving complex atrial fibrillation and I believe Topera’s system represents one of the greatest recent advances in the understanding of arrhythmias. I look forward to helping the company move the system to the clinic for the benefit of patients.”
