Biotronik has launched its BioMonitor 2 in Europe, according to a press release. The new device is a subcutaneous, insertable cardiac remote monitor.

The BioMonitor 2 device is designed to accurately and reliably detect cardiac electrical events continuously in patients with atrial fibrillation or syncope. Two versions of the product are available; one designed to detect atrial fibrillation and one to help diagnose the cause of unexplained syncope.

“This new heart monitor provides data that is quite high quality,” comments Carlo Pappone, director of arrhythmias and cardiac pacing at Policlinico San Donato, Milanese, Italy. “The P-wave and R-wave are easily detectable and the rhythm discrimination is highly specific. Along with the daily transmissions of patient, we can get a clear and timely view of clinically relevant events even earlier than before and start appropriate treatment.”

A recent Australian pilot study showed a >90% transmission reliability for daily Biotronik Home Monitoring transmissions, exceeding industry standards.
